I keep some bible verses stuck to my bedroom wall, verses which have some personal meaning to me, ones which I want to absorb into my heart (perhaps my mind as well, but my word-for-word memory is notoriously unreliable). I update these verses every now and then. Here a some new verses I've posted up:
Jeremiah 5:25 and Jeremiah 7:19
God's reactions to sin in the book of Jeremiah have astonished me. He is not only grieved, but He seems shocked, even perplexed. He does not understand why His people would do something as silly as turn from their life-source, to things that only do them harm. God seems to go through a whole range of reactions/emotions before He actually gets wrathful (it takes a lot to get Him angry). Even then, His aim is to purify and save a remnant. His love for His people and His desire to do them good is really evident in Jeremiah even in the midst of evil and judgement.
John 16:13-15
These are wonderfully Trinitarian verses. The Father gives the Son all that is His, and the Son in turn gives all that He's been given to His Spirit, who in turn makes it known to us. The Father gives us a relationship with Himself through and only through relationship with His Son and His Spirit. No greater intimacy exists.
Philippians 4:8
Kierkegaard once said, "our life always expressed the result of our dominant thoughts." I've found this to be true enough. Lately I haven't had full control of my mind, and have been thinking rather dull and careless thoughts. So I want to take the reigns of my mind and think the most honourable and loving thoughts I can.
I've also kept John 14:12-14 and John 15:12-13 on my wall; they seem too valuable to take down.
